The Accommodation
Welcome
It hasn’t escaped your notice that you’re renting a guesthouse in the midst of paradise, has it? Long beach, beautiful nature, and a great selection of restaurants and pubs. There are many wonderful places on the island, but it’s perfectly fine to just stay in Tofta and enjoy! Don’t miss the fishing camp in Gnisvärd, and on one of the roads there, you’ll pass several ancient monuments.
Shops
The nearest grocery stores (14km) are Coop in Klintehamn and ICA Vibblehallen on the road towards Visby. From the beginning of May until the end of August, there’s also a small mini-market at Tofta Camping, they have the essentials but the selection is limited. We prefer to go to Coop in Klintehamn during the summer, as there’s significantly less traffic in that direction.
There are also two bakeries in Tofta where you can buy fresh bread
La Petite Patisserie Tofta du Sud (closed 2023) and Tofta Strandbageri
Systembolaget (alcohol store) is available in Visby (20km), Hemse (37km), and Slite (55km)
Swimming
At “GEAB-kollen” you can see current temperatures for several of Gotland’s beaches
There is also an opportunity for pool swimming during high season at Toftagården and Tofta BeachClub
Patio
A simple patio at the guesthouse is available for your use. Feel free to use the grill and remember to grill carefully. Always check beforehand if there are any fire bans/grilling bans.
If the plums are ripe, you’re welcome to pick and eat them. Wild strawberries and blueberries are usually available for picking in the nearby forests.
Clothesline
There is a clothesline around the corner for hanging swimwear and anything else that needs drying.
The Parking
The parking area is shared with us. It is fine to drive the car up to the guesthouse for loading and unloading. There is an opportunity to charge an electric car for a small fee; let us know if you would like to do so.
Playground
A soccer field and a large area for play/outdoor activities are available behind the neighbors across the road. You can get there by going out to the right and then taking a left onto the path.
Exercise
There are opportunities for longer forest walks and jogging routes in the woods further up Sockenstigen (two streets north). There, a forest road leads up to a mast, and if you continue behind it, you’ll find the path that leads back to the nearby residential area.
Behind Tofta Camping reception, there are outdoor gyms and paddle courts. During high season, there are also group training (outdoors) and yoga classes (both indoors and outdoors) in Tofta.
Water Scarcity on Gotland
Water scarcity is a significant issue on Gotland, especially during the summer when the island’s population increases, leading to high water consumption. It’s essential to use water sparingly. To avoid wasting water, for example, if you want cold water, place a jug or bottle in the refrigerator instead of letting the tap run. When showering, it’s recommended that you rinse off, turn off the water while lathering up and shampooing your hair, and then turn it back on when rinsing. We have a water heater that provides hot water for about 4 people if you follow these showering guidelines. A tub is available under the sink for rinsing dishes; avoid washing and rinsing under running water.
Kitchen Equipment and Other Practicalities
The kitchen table can be extended, and there are 2 regular chairs, 4 folding chairs with accompanying cushions, and a high chair.
Plastic cups and plastic champagne glasses can be taken to the beach, along with the water-resistant speaker.
An iron and ironing board are available; when searching for something, you’ll likely find it in the wardrobe, drawers in the kitchen table, or a dresser drawer.
Feel free to use drawers in dressers and the wardrobe.
Umbrellas are hanging under the coat rack.
Technology
SVT1, SVT2, TV4, SVT24, and the children’s channel are available on the TV. Additional channels can be found in the Telenor app on Apple TV.
The iPhone charging cable by the bed can be used, but please double-check that it’s left in the guesthouse when you depart.
Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the speaker to pair it with a new phone.
Wi-Fi
The network is called Haimyvar Airbnb, and the password is toftatofta.
(“Haimyvar” is Gutnish and means “homeward” or “at home,” similar to “homeward” in other dialects)
Contact
The easiest and quickest way to contact us is via messaging on Airbnb, as we receive a notification and will respond promptly. You’re welcome to ask questions, request assistance, or just ask for tips on something special!
Please contact us directly if you have any problems or concerns, and we’ll do our best to resolve the issue.
We appreciate your Airbnb rating and would be delighted if you wrote in our guestbook.
Waste Disposal
Dispose of your waste in our bins, compost (brown container), and combustible waste (black container). Other sorted waste, such as paper, glass, and plastic, can be taken to recycling centers in Klintehamn or Visby, or left outside one of the larger grocery stores where containers are available.
Dog
Our dog Primo guards our garden, but it is fenced, and the dog does not have access to your areas. If you’re afraid of dogs, let us know, and we’ll keep an extra eye on him. Otherwise, talking to him usually helps him get used to new people quickly. He is sociable but not used to small children. Do not enter the garden without our agreement. A doorbell is located on the gatepost if you have any business.
